Rare Original Puppets From ‘The Sooty Show’ To Be Auctioned

After being tucked away and forgotten about for 40 years, an original set of puppets used on ‘The Sooty Show’ are going to be offered for sale at auction on Thursday 18th November, 2021 at Ewbanks Auctions based in Surrey.

Sooty has a estimated value of £1,000 – £1,500. Sweep has been given an estimated value of £500 – £800. Soo has been given a estimated value of £400 – £600. Little Cousin Scampi has also been given a lower estimated value of £400 – £600.

Originally owned by Peter Jago who was a chief puppeteer on the show had kept them until he passed away in 2016. They are being sold by Peter’s family with all the puppets and accessories coming with a combined value of £4,000.

Alastair McCrea, an auctioneer at Ewbanks Auctions said “This is a charming consignment from a talented man who devoted much of his professional life to keeping the Sooty flame alive for generations of children.”

“He retired from the show in the early 2000s but kept four of the puppets and continued to appear when he was needed.

These puppets are part of British TV history and will make a welcome addition to any collector. Being untouched for the last 40 years, they come in incredible condition. Having graced the TV screens in the 70’s, the puppets still hold the glints of stories and joy in their eyes.
